Easthampton, July 24, 2024 – The Treehouse Foundation is announcing a significant change in its leadership. Visionary Founder, Judy Cockerton, has stepped down from her role as CEO, marking the beginning of a new chapter for both her and Treehouse.
Judy’s decision to transition comes at a time when Treehouse is well-positioned for growth and success. Over the past year, Judy and the Board have been diligently preparing for this moment, making substantial investments in development, marketing, and operations. As the thriving Easthampton intergenerational community celebrates its 18th anniversary and Treehouse at Olmsted Village secures $7 million from the city of Boston for its 2028 opening, the groundwork for a seamless transition has been firmly established.
“We owe Judy an immense debt of gratitude for her vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to re-envisioning foster care,” said Sarah Carlan, Board Chair. “The Treehouse model is a proven success for changing kids’ futures, it supports families caring for children and youth, and gives purpose to the older community members. Judy also deeply cared about systemic change. She vigorously supported a growing nationwide movement of social changemakers, led by Treehouse Champions, who are a cohort of alumni with experience in foster care. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and drive us all forward.
In light of Judy’s departure, the Treehouse Foundation is pleased to announce that Erika Kuester, who served as Chief Operating Officer, has assumed the role of Interim CEO. Erika’s extensive experience and close collaboration with Judy since joining last year make her the ideal candidate to lead Treehouse during this transitional period. The interim CEO position is expected to last approximately 18 months.
